Strikeforce Results: Fedor Emelianenko Suffers First Real Loss

Sunday, June 27th, 2010
Tonight MMA fans saw the return of Strikeforce's Fedor "The Last Emperor" Emelianenko. Fedor (31-1-0) who is widely considered as the top heavyweight fighter in all of MMA, entered the cage to take on Fabricio Werdum (13 - 4 - 1). Werdum, trained in Brazilian jujitsu, said before the fight that his game plan was to take Fedor to the ground and keep him there. One problem Fabricio, we're talking about Fedor Emelianenko, the baddest dude in Strikeforce. Arn't we? Fedor knocked Werdum down about thirty seconds into the first round, but Werdum recovered nicely by slipping Fedor into ...

Fedor Emelianenko: ‘I’m Not a UFC Fan’

Saturday, June 19th, 2010
Pre-fight conference calls are generally quite routine affairs. They serve a purpose: getting quotes to reporters to pass on to the fans, but often it's a lot of words with little meaning. The fighter always has had "the best camp of my life," is in the "the best shape of his life," and has plans to win. A few colorful characters sometimes stray from the script, but every once in a while you get something unexpected. Heavyweight MMA legend Fedor Emelianenko dropped one of those moments during Friday's Strikeforce call leading up to his fight with Fabricio Werdum on June 26. Asked by MMA Fighting why their fight ...

Court McGee and Kris McCray Face Defining Moment at TUF 11 Finale

Saturday, June 19th, 2010

"It was just a thought that came to me. I saw that glass trophy, me being the next Ultimate Fighter, and it was pretty powerful." McCray had similar visions, only ...

Jumping The Gun: Strikeforce Gets Worse By The Day

Saturday, June 19th, 2010
Yesterday, I wrote an article because I felt that Strikeforce was lacking as an MMA promotion. (http://bleacherreport.com/articles/407851-strikeforce-or-how-to-a-promotion-lacks-common-sense) Overall, I just think Strikeforce has made a series of really bad decisions that have been going against their ability to compete with the UFC. Today, there are multiple reports of even more failings on behalf of Strikeforce. First up is Mauro Ranallo, Frank Shamrock, Gilbert Melendez and Nick Diaz electing attend the opening of a medical marijuana center in San Jose, California. That, in and of itself, is okay but at the same time is it okay for two champions to be supporting such a hot button issue? Especially when both of ...

Strikeforce’s “Time Is Ticking” According To Jake Shields’ Camp

Monday, May 24th, 2010
[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="340" caption="Valerie Macon/Getty Images "][/caption] Jake Shields was one of MMA’s most sought-after free agents before even becoming one. Although Stikeforce has first dibs at retaining their middleweight champion, Shields’ father/managers claim the San Jose, CA based organization has yet to make any offers. "The time is ticking," Jack Shields told SI.com. "We’d like to move forward as soon as possible. I’d like to be negotiating right now." Jake owns an impressive 25-4-1 professional record and ...
