Jason “Mayhem” Miller Apologizes for Post-Strikeforce Brawl
Monday, April 19th, 2010
Strikeforce: Nashville had it's share of criticism after the events of Saturday night.
Unfortunately, the fight card was overshadowed by the brawl between Jason "Mayhem" Miller and Jake Shields, Gilbert Melendez and the Diaz brothers.
Late Sunday night, Miller posted an apology on his website and addressed the situation.
Here is what "Mayhem" had to say:
I would like to formally apologize to CBS, Strikeforce, and all fans of mixed martial arts for my role in the events following the Strikeforce: Nashville event.
In retrospect, my timing could not have been worse to ask for my rematch ...
The “F” in UFC Does Stand for Fighting, Right?
Monday, April 19th, 2010
After every big MMA event, a flood of negative headlines cover MMA websites like wallpaper. Sadly, the negativity is usually from the fans, rather than the outside observer that this sport so tirelessly caters to.
So often, being a fan of MMA seems to come with a license to deem what is and isn't "bad for the sport." So often, the casual observer holds more importance than the actual passionate enthusiasts of this game.
Why do we feel so pressed to impress? We have what we want, don't we? We get to see a steady flow of interesting and competitive matchups month-in and month-out.
The best fight the best on a regular basis.
Why should we ...
UFC 112 Preview: Demian Maia Has No Problem Putting Chael Sonnen on His Back
Saturday, April 10th, 2010
Most pundits are giving Demian Maia little or no chance to unseat middleweight champ Anderson Silva at UFC 112.
This is in spite of the fact that Demian Maia is one of the most credentialed jiu jitsu practitioners to ever fight for a UFC title. Maia has won the world jiu jitsu title three times and has also won the Abu Dhabi Combat Club submission grappling championship. Forget BJJ black belts like Thales Leites and Rousimar Palhares. Anderson Silva may have excellent jiu jitsu, but Maia is on a different plane as a grappler. He's in that rarefied air where only the best of the best contend. His peers are Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza, ...
Anderson still looking at heavyweight matches
Wednesday, March 24th, 2010
Anderson Silva admitted last night that he is still looking at fights in the light-heavyweight and heavyweight divisions in the near future, but insists he has not cleaned out the middleweight division he currently rules. Speaking on the UFC 112 conference call, Silva said there were still many challenges for him at 185lbs.
“My biggest motivation is to be the champion of the UFC. I feel right at home… I am far from cleaning out the [middleweight] division. There may be guys even better than me coming into the division. Proof is Demian Maia. We will have a great fight,” he said.
“Heavyweight is something I have in mind and in my plans. I have been ...
Nate Diaz Moving to 170, Draws Rory Markham at UFC 111 in Newark / Sanchez wants Diaz too!!
Tuesday, January 19th, 2010
As he hinted after suffering a split decision loss to Gray Maynard at UFN 20 earlier this month, it looks like Nate Diaz (6-3 UFC) will indeed make move up to the welterweight division. Diaz's first test at 170 lbs will come against Miletich-trained striker Rory Markham (1-1 UFC) who hasn't seen action in over a year due to nagging injuries which also forced him out of a UFC 108 fight with Martin Kampmann. The report comes from MMA Junkie:
It didn't take long for Nate Diaz to get the phone call.
Diaz has stated that the cut to 155 is rough for him, and he'd at least like to ...
