Police: Boxing champ commits suicide in jail

Former boxing champion Edwin Valero committed suicide in his jail cell today just hours after he was arrested in his wife's murder, according to police in Venezuela. The former lightweight champion used his own clothes to hang himself in his cell, Venezuelan Federal Police Chief Wilmer Flores told reporters. He said Valero tied his clothes to a cell bar to hang himself. Valero was found by another inmate and still showed signs of life, but jail personnel was unable to save him, Flores said. At UFC 112, the unthinkable happened: BJ Penn lost to Frankie Edgar.  After a relatively uneventful five rounds, the judges came back with a unanimous verdict in Edgar's favor.  Say what you want about the decision, but BJ let a close fight go to the judges.  He looked like a broken and beaten man after the fight. Does Frankie Edgar jump to number one for beating BJ Penn?  I'm sure some people will say yes.  Fight Matrix already has Edgar at number one.  I'm not a big rankings guy, but I think there is a strong case for ranking Shinya Aoki number one.  Edgar's win was not exactly dominant, and a lot of people think he should ...

Can Kenny Florian Overcome the “Number Two” Curse?

Over the past few years, we've seen a number of situations in which a fighter works his way up to the number one contender spot, loses the title fight, and then spends the next few years proving that he can beat anyone in the division except the champion.  Jon Fitch and Rich Franklin come immediately to mind, and now Kenny Florian finds himself in a similar position. UFC drops lightweight Kyle Bradley following UFC Fight Night 20 loss

After his 1-3 run in the organization that included a recent decision loss to Rafael dos Anjos at UFC Fight Night 20, Ultimate Fighting Championship officials cut lightweight Kyle Bradley from the organization's roster. Bradley confirmed the termination of his contract via Twitter. Bradley (14-7 MMA, 1-3 UFC), who debuted with the UFC two years ago, likely will be best remembered for his TKO victory over "The Ultimate Fighter 8" runner-up Phillipe Nover at UFC 98. from MMAJunkie.com
