GSP: FROM ULTIMATE CHAMPION TO ULTIMATE COACH
Tuesday, May 18th, 2010
Every season of “The Ultimate Fighter" has brought a different style of coach, and some of the best fighters in the world have taken a turn at the head of a team on the powerhouse reality show. For the first time ever, UFC welterweight champion and arguably pound-for-pound top fighter in the world Georges St-Pierre will take his turn as coach on the next season of the reality show, which starts filming in June.
The Canadian fighter leaves for Las Vegas in a few weeks, and has already started assembling his team of coaches and assistants that will help him along the way with the new season of hopefuls.
The cast of characters to ...
Nick Diaz speaks Out Re: Recent Strikeforce Brawl, wants Georges St. Pierre
Friday, April 23rd, 2010
Strikeforce cagefighting champion Nick Diaz is only 26 years of age, but the young Stockton California native has fought in almost every legit MMA promotion there is, including a three-year, 10-fight stint with the biggest and best one, the UFC.
All his matches have been tremendously entertaining, the best one possibly being the "news reel-style" knockout win over a heavily favored Robbie Lawler at UFC 47 in April of '04.
Diaz, in my opinion, is one of the top "pound for pound" fighters in the world today, and the eldest of the two fighting siblings was recently in Las Vegas to race in the Xterra Triathlon, an "iron man" contest; but ...
BJ Penn vs. Koscheck-Daley Winner a Possibility For TUF 12
Tuesday, April 6th, 2010
There's a new rumor floating around that contrary to current speculation, the winner of the fight between Josh Koscheck and Paul Daley may not get an immediate title shot, but instead will likely be brought in to coach on the next season of The Ultimate Fighter opposite BJ Penn.
If Koscheck or Daley were successful in that fight, they would then get a title shot. It's unclear if Penn would need another win to garner his own title shot if Georges St. Pierre is still champion at the time.
If this rumor is true, there are a lot of positives.
Penn seems destined to make another foray into the welterweight division, and coaching on TUF would ...
Teammate vs. Teammate Bouts Remain Unattractive to AKA’s fighters
Tuesday, January 26th, 2010
The UFC's welterweight division has had its ups and downs over the course of the last few years. At one point, many fans, including myself, had a very pessimistic outlook on the division's future as current champion Georges St. Pierre had taken out Jon Fitch, Thiago Alves, and B.J. Penn in title defenses. He'll fight in his fourth straight defense on March 27th against Dan Hardy in a battle that many fans see as another destructive win for the champion.
Unfortunately for fans, there aren't too many options left for Georges St. Pierre. Jon Fitch will likely be the next title contender if he can defeat Thiago Alves at UFC 111, but a case could be made for Josh Koscheck if ...
Rampage-Rashad off UFC 113, on to UFC 114?
Tuesday, January 19th, 2010
Has the fight between Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson and Rashad Evans been moved off the UFC 113 card? One industry source tells Fighters Only that it has, and is likely to be used to headline a separate event to take place around the same time.
And top ten Josh Koscheck said yesterday that his fight with Paul ’Semtex’ Daley is to be the co-main event at UFC 113, which will be headlined by a second title fight between 205lb champion Lyoto Machida and Mauricio ’Shogun’ Rua.
Rampage-Rashad was thought to be the co-main event for UFC 113 but unless Koscheck is misinformed, that is no longer the case. And as the fight between the two TUF10 captains has the potential ...
