Nick Diaz speaks Out Re: Recent Strikeforce Brawl, wants Georges St. Pierre

Friday, April 23rd, 2010
Strikeforce cagefighting champion Nick Diaz is only 26 years of age, but the young Stockton California native has fought in almost every legit MMA promotion there is, including a three-year, 10-fight stint with the biggest and best one, the UFC. All his matches have been tremendously entertaining, the best one possibly being the "news reel-style" knockout win over a heavily favored Robbie Lawler at UFC 47 in April of '04. Diaz, in my opinion, is one of the top "pound for pound" fighters in the world today, and the eldest of the two fighting siblings was recently in Las Vegas to race in the Xterra Triathlon, an "iron man" contest; but ...

Georges St. Pierre Discusses the Two Kinds of UFC Fans

Tuesday, April 13th, 2010
UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre has been getting a lot of questions from fans and the media over the last couple of weeks about why he has been dominating his opponents lately, but not finishing them. In a question-and-answer session with fans in Abu Dhabi last week, St. Pierre said that the discontent from some fans about his unanimous decision victory over Dan Hardy shows that there are two different types of people who watch the UFC. "I think there are two kinds of fans," St. Pierre said in the Q&A, which can be viewed at UFC.com. ...

FLORIAN AND MAYNARD ON COLLISION COURSE

Friday, April 2nd, 2010
Even in victory it's the great fighters in MMA who are always humble and never believe they've reached the pinnacle. That was the attitude of Georges St-Pierre after defeating Dan Hardy at UFC 111, and Kenny Florian displayed much the same attitude coming off of a dominant win over former Pride champion Takanori Gomi at UFC Fight Night 21 on Wednesday. The fight was always in Florian's control, from the stand-up to the ground game, but the Massachusetts fighter remained grounded, realizing that he still hasn't reached the finish line. "I know I still have a lot to work on, we're slowly changing things around, re-positioning some pieces, and slowly changing my style to be able to ...

UFC 111: St. Pierre Dominates A Hearty Hardy

Saturday, March 27th, 2010
Saturday, March 27, 2010 - by Ken Pishna, MMAWeekly.com Georges St-Pierre entered the Octagon at UFC 111 on Saturday night the overwhelming favorite, and he exited in the same fashion. He left know doubt in anyone’s mind that he is the most dominant welterweight fighter, and one of the pound for pound best fighters, on the planet. St-Pierre wasn't able to finish Hardy, but he thoroughly dominated the fight from bell to bell. Every single round, Hardy came out trying to find an opening for his striking arsenal, and every single round, St-Pierre picked the Brit up and dumped him on his back. He wasn’t able to do much visible damage ...

Teammate vs. Teammate Bouts Remain Unattractive to AKA’s fighters

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010
The UFC's welterweight division has had its ups and downs over the course of the last few years. At one point, many fans, including myself, had a very pessimistic outlook on the division's future as current champion Georges St. Pierre had taken out Jon Fitch, Thiago Alves, and B.J. Penn in title defenses. He'll fight in his fourth straight defense on March 27th against Dan Hardy in a battle that many fans see as another destructive win for the champion. Unfortunately for fans, there aren't too many options left for Georges St. Pierre. Jon Fitch will likely be the next title contender if he can defeat Thiago Alves at UFC 111, but a case could be made for Josh Koscheck if ...
