UFC 114 Look Ahead: The Main Card

With UFC 113 barely behind us, it's already time to start looking ahead to UFC 114—Rampage vs Evans.
The event is May 29th, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas, NV.
Though a notable name in Forrest Griffin has been taken off the card, the lineup is still exciting for most MMA fans.
Rashad Evans and Quinton "Rampage" Jackson, will fight in the main event to find out who goes on to face Shogun Rua for his new Light Heavyweight Title.
Griffin and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira were slated to the co-main event, but now Griffin has been replaced by 18-2-1 Jason "The Hitman" Brilz.

Over the past few years, we've seen a number of situations in which a fighter works his way up to the number one contender spot, loses the title fight, and then spends the next few years proving that he can beat anyone in the division except the champion. Jon Fitch and Rich Franklin come immediately to mind, and now Kenny Florian finds himself in a similar position.
Florian has to be considered the favorite against anybody in the UFC lightweight division besides BJ Penn. The next logical fight for Florian is Gray Maynard, and while it's a tough fight, I would pick Florian to win it. If he does, he'd effectively knock off ...

The issue of weight-cutting as a ‘quick fix' to a fighter's divisional troubles came to me as an interesting subject for discussion following B.J. Penn's destruction of Diego Sanchez at UFC 107. Not to take anything away from Penn's phenomenal performance, but it's hard for me to sit back and honestly say that Diego Sanchez's transition to 155 has been a wise move for his career. Sanchez's drop was inspired by two back-to-back defeats and the allure of physical advantages (strength and conditioning) he would supposedly hold over his fellow competitors at lightweight.
