There are many variations on the theme, but the refrain is the same... Alistair Overeem wants to fight Fedor Emelianenko.
With the Strikeforce heavyweight champion’s first round demolition of Brett Rogers on Saturday night, it would seem the fight could now happen. Not so fast.
Remember, Fedor has another fight on his hands first. He is scheduled to face Fabricio Werdum in a Strikeforce and M-1 Global co-promotion on June 26 in San Jose, Calif.
If he wins there then let’s talk.

Have you ever heard of the saying that a team holds its destiny in its own hands? That’s exactly where Strikeforce middleweight champion Jake Shields currently finds himself.
It almost seemed as though the organization was sending Shields to be put out to pasture before he bolted for the UFC by feeding him to Dan Henderson at “Strikeforce: Nashville .”

Police: Boxing champ commits suicide in jail

Former boxing champion Edwin Valero committed suicide in his jail cell today just hours after he was arrested in his wife's murder, according to police in Venezuela.
The former lightweight champion used his own clothes to hang himself in his cell, Venezuelan Federal Police Chief Wilmer Flores told reporters. He said Valero tied his clothes to a cell bar to hang himself.
Valero was found by another inmate and still showed signs of life, but jail personnel was unable to save him, Flores said.
Valero was jailed yesterday on suspicion of killing his wife, Jennifer Viera, who was stabbed to death at a hotel. Prosecutors had ...
CAIN VELASQUEZ WAITING IN THE WINGS FOR A SHOT

Brock Lesnar will look to return to action in July against new interim heavyweight champion Shane Carwin. Waiting in the shadows for the winner of that fight will be Cain Velasquez, who will likely sit and wait for his title shot until after the unification bout this summer.
UFC president Dana White commented on the status of the next two contenders in the heavyweight division on Saturday night after UFC 111 ended in Newark, N.J.
To hear White tell it, Velasquez has already done enough to fight for the title and now it's just a matter of waiting for one champion to stand tall. Then he'll get his shot.
