Yahoo! Sports columnist Kevin Iole has a weekly ‘mailbag’ feature, in which he responds to letters and questions from fans. The question of Lesnar’s Vikings game attendance was brought this week, and Iole says that following a conversation with UFC president Dana White, it appears that “something doesn’t add up”.
“I asked Dana White and he said he hadn’t seen the [Vikings game]. He said Lesnar called him Monday, which is the first he found out about the illness, and said he couldn’t make it. White further said Lesnar told him he is not sure if he could fight in January,” Iole wrote.
“I asked if Lesnar sounded ill when they spoke and he said no. White said he had breakfast with Lesnar in Las Vegas about a month ago and said Lesnar told him at that time he wanted to fight frequently. Something doesn’t add up here and this bears further watching.”
Predictably, forums have been full of accusations that Lesnar is using steroids and does not want to submit to a test. But he has never failed a steroid test before and that explanation does not over why he apparently told Dana White that he does not know if he will be ready for January. Could another contract dispute be rearing its head?
Whatever the answe, at least one half of the fight expects to be competing in the new year. Shane Carwin has posted a Twitter update saying he has received a new bout agreement for the clash, which specifies a January 2nd (UFC 108) date.
