Jumping The Gun: Strikeforce Gets Worse By The Day

Yesterday, I wrote an article because I felt that Strikeforce was lacking as an MMA promotion. (http://bleacherreport.com/articles/407851-strikeforce-or-how-to-a-promotion-lacks-common-sense) Overall, I just think Strikeforce has made a series of really bad decisions that have been going against their ability to compete with the UFC.

Today, there are multiple reports of even more failings on behalf of Strikeforce.

First up is Mauro Ranallo, Frank Shamrock, Gilbert Melendez and Nick Diaz electing attend the opening of a medical marijuana center in San Jose, California. That, in and of itself, is okay but at the same time is it okay for two champions to be supporting such a hot button issue? Especially when both of them have their characters being questioned from a riot they were involved in during Strikeforce: Nashville? Especially when one of them is Nick Diaz, someone who is constantly causing new headaches for everyone?

Not only is Diaz going to throw his support into this hot button issue in public, though most people know he is all about smoking weed at all times, he is going to cause some problems for Strikeforce in other areas. Namely: Holding their welterweight strap hostage due to his suspension.

Diaz is up for a 90 day suspension thanks to his role in the brawl in Nashville. The problem is he has to fill out the paper work to say he is taking the suspension and will not appeal it. A failed appeal will lead to an even longer suspension.

Let us all keep in mind that Nick Diaz is the same man who fails to submit drug tests from time to time. So until he submits the paper work, the suspension is indefinite and will probably drag out much longer than the stated 90 days.

And, for all of you wondering how the UFC failed in Salt Lake City for UFC on Versus 2 (it’s because of religion nothing else), well let’s look at Strikeforce: There as of yet announced event in Houston will probably be moved due to concern over the lack of sales of Houston’s large Toyota Center.

Now the UFC can go to San Diego from Utah and is there any doubt that the show will sell? The UFC does well everywhere it goes. But with Strikeforce unsure of what it is doing how can they even gain attention in either city, Houston because they don’t kow if they are staying or the other city because they aren’t sure if they are going yet, in order to move a significant amount of tickets.

Seems like Strikeforce is getting hit hard lately.

The end may indeed be night.
