Floyd Mayweather Goes Head to Head With UFC 113

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010
James Kimball at SBNation opines: Let's face it. Despite what Dana White or anybody else with a microphone has to say about boxing and mixed martial arts being able to peacefully coexist in the sporting world, the two forms of combat will never play nice with each other. There's too much history and ego in the way.      This is a very in your face move by Mayweather. The last time he was going up against a very weak UFC 103 card headlined by a catchweight bout between Vitor Belfort and Rich Franklin. This time he's throwing down the gauntlet against one of the UFC's "come back" cards, featuring the Lightheavyweight Title ...

Shane Del Rosario will not be fighting Bobby Lashley on Jan 30th. He has indeed been offered a fight with Bobby Lashley and both sides had agreed to the fight, but somehow, Strikeforce officials told Shane that the bout was off. Lashley is fighting in three weeks, but no opponent has been announced yet. Shane on the other hand, is reportedly set to make his return on March, against fellow striker, Lavar Johnson. ... The rumored match between Rich Franklin and Patrick Cote for UFC 113, is false. Cote will still participate on the card, but it won't be against Franklin. ... After the Failure of Mayweather vs. Pacquiao, What’s Next for Boxing?

Friday, January 8th, 2010
Scott Christ over at Bad Left Hook is writing some of his finest work to date: Where else but in boxing can you get a catastrophe that will define the sport in the short term, putting it in a negative light, and then have everyone mud-sling instead of try and fix what's wrong? Bob Arum and Co. will spend their time calling Mayweather a coward, and Mayweather and Co. will spend their time pointing out that all Pacquiao had to do was agree to their demands.  My love of boxing makes me hesitate to say this, but there's an opening here for the UFC. Lesnar's long term absence or departure removes the possibility of the doors ...

Dana White’s “No Comment” on Brock Lesnar Is an Ominous Sign

Friday, January 8th, 2010
Mike Chiappetta talks to the boss man of the UFC about the Brock Lesnar situation: UFC President Dana White, when reached via text, said he could not comment on anything regarding the champion's health and re-evaluation. "Brock asked me not to talk about it," he said. "I have to respect that." When asked if he could make any statement at all about Lesnar, White was again uncharacteristically silent. "No comment," he said. "First time in nine years I have ever said that." I don't take this as a good sign. Here's the reality of the situation. The UFC has hitched its wagon to Lesnar. He was the dominant PPV attraction for the UFC in 2008 when he fought on ...

Rashad Evans To Face Quinton “Rampage” Jackson In May

Monday, January 4th, 2010
The much anticipated bout between Rashad Evans and Quinton "Rampage" Jackson came one step closer to becoming a reality last night at UFC 108, as Evans defeated Thiago Silva via unanimous decision to earn the fight."Getting to fight him [Rampage] would be a good opportunity to say the least," Evans said at the UFC 108 post-fight press conference. UFC President Dana White stated that he was looking at UFC 113 in May in Montreal for the fight, which would also feature a UFC light heavyweight title match-up between champion Lyoto Machida and challenger Mauricio "Shogun" Rua. "We're thinking maybe, probably May," he said. "That's going to be a sick card up there." Jackson was slated to ...
